More than 320 people were in attendance as the ÍÆ¼öÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´’s College of Business hosted its annual Honors and Awards Banquet on April 25 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. The event recognized achievements by students, faculty and community partners over the past academic year. 

“The annual College Honors and Awards Banquet is a great event to recognize many of the students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters that are part of our community of scholarship,” said Dean Greg Mosier. “It is an opportunity to recognize our outstanding students and our next generation of business leaders.”  

The event, organized by the Business Student Council, featured keynote speaker Jack Nagler, retired ombudsman from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.  

Five graduating seniors received the Outstanding Senior Award, which honors academic achievement, leadership and community involvement: Adam Frey (finance and economics); Ameerah Mapp (marketing and management); Christopher Baldwin (accounting); Hannah Taylor (accounting); and Steven Spurlock (economics).  

The Frank D. Arnold Award, given to a student who has shown excellence in Finance, was given to Anthony Cordoba.  

More than 250 student scholarship recipients were recognized, along with several key donors and foundation partners for their continued support of the College. Attending honorees included Jessica Sayles (SAEF Accounting Award), Sterling Franklin (Frederick A. Steinmann Scholarship Endowment), the Meintjes Family, the Crofoot Family, Ann Silver (Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce), and Dave and Debbie Richwood.  

In addition, 50 students and one faculty member were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society recognizing academic excellence in business programs accredited by AACSB International. 

Greater Nevada Credit Union received Corporate Partner of the Year. KPMG received Nevada Grad Employer of the Year. Jason Shelton, business insights manager at Microsoft, was awarded Volunteer of the Year for his ongoing support for business students and their success.  

The College also honored faculty and community partners for their contributions: 

  • Research Excellence Award: Alexis Hanna and Sandun Perera 
  • Willem Houwink Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence: Brett Rixom 
  • Bill Parish Excellence in Teaching Award: Thomas Burnham 
  • Mark Simkin Teaching Excellence in Information Systems: Jason Talaei 
  • Academic Advisor of the Year: Theresa Toilolo 

Chris Boline was named Alumni of the Year for his continued engagement and support of the college. 

The college also recognized student leaders and club contributors. The following were named Club Members of the Year:
