Border-Lines Journal

Border-Lines is an interdisciplinary and intersectional academic journal dedicated to the dissemination of research on Chicana/o-Latina/o cultural, political and social issues. Border-Lines is a refereed journal that seeks to publish scholarly articles drawn from a variety of disciplines such as anthropology, education, geography, human health, literary and cultural studies, political science, social work and sociology. Articles, poetry, prose and testimonials are accepted in English and in Spanish in APA style formatting.

Border-Lines, Vol. XVII

The most recent volume of the Journal of the Latino Research Center is the second in the four-part series regarding emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions (eHSIs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Scholars focused on the needs of Hispanic/Latino students at eHSIs and HSIs.

In this issue, authors shared information on culturally responsive pedagogies, focusing on servingness and increasing students’ sense of belonging, and creating opportunities for high-impact practices such as reimagining research as culturally sustaining.

Call for 2026 submissions

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts for the new XVII Volume of Border-Lines. The focus of this issue must include a context regarding emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions (eHSIs) or Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) including but not limited to topics such as the following:

  • Capacity Building and Workload Realignment
  • Professional Learning in Servingness 
  • Culturally Responsiveness Pedagogy & Curricular Shifts
  • Counseling and Advising for Servingness
  • Data Literacy Training, Data Systems or Dashboards
  • Translanguaging and Related Supports
  • Faculty Representation

Deadline: August 31, 2026

Submission guidelines

  • Manuscripts submitted to Border-Lines should be the original and unpublished research that is not under consideration for any other journal at the time.
  • Manuscripts should include an abstract of 150 words or less.
  • Manuscripts are accepted in English or Spanish; 4,000-5,000 words (not including abstract and title), plus references.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word, double spaced in 12-point type, Times New Roman, APA Style 7th Edition.
  • Creative writing pieces are invited for review in English or Spanish. Essays and short stories should not exceed 1,000 words.
  • Poems may also be submitted for review with a focus on lived experiences, identity, and Latinidad.
  • All manuscripts must be submitted using this template and submitted using the Border-Lines submission form.
  • Deadline for Submission:  August 31, 2026
